Best Yukon Charlie’s Snowshoes: Reviews & Ratings

The truth is this: these are really fantastic snowshoes, but they aren’t the best in the world. Surely, that’s a fairly obvious statement, considering the products sold by Yukon Charlie’s are so affordable (not many snowshoes, if any, are over $100). After all, you get what you pay for.

But this isn’t to say that they’re bad, either! In fact, Yukon Charlie’s snowshoes are pretty great for beginners and weekend snowshoers. Even though they were made for every type of user–from newbie to expert, amateur to athlete–they really do tend to be better for those who don’t need the special features and advanced designs of more expensive MSR snowshoes, Atlas snowshoes, or Crescent Moon snowshoes.

Yukon Charlie’s Icon Alpha Series Snowshoes for Men

No matter how adventurous you think you might be in the backcountry, these shoes are even more so. They’re built as if they just can’t wait to get into the uncharted territories–with a radical frame shape, aggressive crampons, and a super lightweight construction–but they may be more eager than they are capable.

Honestly, these are great for casual use, but we wouldn’t recommend them for extreme backcountry use.

Here are a few of the Icon Alpha’s detailed specs:

  • Frame Construction — Aircraft 7000 Series Aluminum
  • Binding System — Fast Fit Plus
  • Sizes Available — 8″ x 21″, 8″ x 25″, 9″ x 30″, and 10″ x 36″

Yukon Charlie’s Icon Beta Series Snowshoes for Women

These shoes are some of the best in the Yukon Charlie’s catalogue because they don’t try to overreach their limits. These aren’t shoes that are trying to be the best in the world, they’re just doing the best with what they have going for them. And to tell you the truth, they have a whole lot going for them.

If you’re an active recreational snowshoe enthusiast who likes to walk across flat or gently rolling snowfields, then these Icon Beta’s may be the perfect match for you. And take a look at the Quik Clik II binding system–it’s super easy to use and fits all different types of winter footwear.

Here are a few of the Icon Beta’s detailed specs:

  • Frame Construction — 7000 Aluminum
  • Binding System — Quik Clik II Ratchet
  • Sizes Available — 8″ x 21″, 8″ x 25″, 8″ x 28″

A Brief History of Yukon Charlie’s Snowshoes

Yukon Charlie’s was founded in 1996 by Bill LaPierre Sr., a man who’d spent his whole life working in business and loving the outdoors. LaPierre saw an opportunity during the mid to late 1990′s to further develop the snowshoeing craze and bring it to larger fanbase by making the shoes more affordable.

When the company was formed, the least expensive snowshoes on the market generally still exceeded $150. LaPierre thought he could do better. In the more than fifteen years since Yukon Charlie’s inception, the company has grown by leaps and bounds, always adhering to that first goal of bringing high quality snowshoes to the masses at a less expensive price.

Now, there are more than a million and a half Yukon Charlie’s snowshoes being used today.
