Unfortunately, Silence has an all too familiar story. They were an up-and-coming brand name in the mid 1990′s, intent on creating new boards for budget-conscious rider, who eventually met insurmountable financial obstacles and had to sell themselves off to a larger corporation. Once they sold out, their goals were silenced (sorry, couldn’t resist!).

Silence snowboards were never top of the line boards, but for awhile they had the potential to be real contenders in the mid-range market, against other brands like LaMar snowboards and Sims snowboards.

They haven’t grown in quality in recent years–in fact, they’ve met with a bit of decline in the performance area. But they are still made and sold mostly as training decks for new riders.

What sets them apart from a lot of the other cheap brands, though, is that they create a pretty decent line of kids’ snowboards that will help your little ones learn the ropes of the sport before they need to upgrade to a better stick.

Frankly, the design of Silence snowboards is nothing to get excited about–but they are very affordable decks.

The Silence Glider is a freestyle snowboard made with lightweight materials and a decent amount of pop. If you want to set your sights on learning the bare basics of pipes, rails, jibbing, and spinning, the Glider is there for you.

Of course this isn’t anywhere near the best beginner park board in the industry–it doesn’t hold a candle to most Burton and Gnu beginner park snowboards–but the price is definitely right.

This is one of those boards that could really be great if the company was willing to spend just a little more time and money on research and development, but as it stands it’s merely a decent ride for learning the most elementary tricks of the trade.

Silence Temp Snowboard Review

It’s no powder hound, and you certainly can’t out-trick the competition in the park with it, but the Temp is a better-than-average all-mountain ride for beginners.

If you don’t know what kind of snowboarding style is right for you, you want to make sure your first board is an all-mountain or all-terrain one, allowing you to try out every aspect of the resort before you narrow down your favorite style. In that respect, the Temp is worth your time to explore further.

Honestly, it’s name is very fitting: The Silence Temp snowboard is a temporary snowboard while you figure out what kind of riding you prefer. After that, you should splurge on a better brand.

This is one of the most advanced Silence snowboards in the catalogue, but it still doesn’t stand up to the better brands in the industry.

In its defense, however, one can say that the Temp is pretty darn responsive and can hold an edge a lot better than other snowboards in its price range.

And in that case, the Silence MRI is a solid choice. Why? It’s a darn good kids’ snowboards that’s affordable and with a long learning curve.

The MRI Youth snowboard is an all-mountain model that will help your kids get a hang of the powder, the piste, the park, and the groomed stuff. They won’t become championship boarders overnight with the MRI, but they will develop the necessary first skills that can lead them to greatness.

You don’t need to drain your bank account to give your kids a Burton or Gnu snowboard for their first training stick–save your money and try this Silence MRI first.
