A Brief History of the Primus Camp Stove

Before becoming the moniker of a major brand in the industry, Primus was first the name of a unique type of stove, a pressurized-burner kerosene model, first invented in 1892 by a Swedish mechanic named Fans Wilhelm Lindqvist.

He based the design on the function of a hand-held blowtorch–with a strong and steady flame aimed in a single direction. Lindqvist eventually partnered with Johan Viktor Svenson to form J.V. Svenson’s Kerosene Stove Factory (you can guess which partner had the money…).
