Brief History of Head Snowboards

Founded in 1950 by Howard Head, legend has it that this ski company was created because Mr. Head was outraged that he was still using wooden skis in an age where metals and plastics had dominated the industrial world. So, he began to make lighter, more durable, and more responsive skis with his own company.

Unlike many of its contemporaries, Head remained a powerhouse and was never bought out by a larger corporation–in fact, as it grew, Head began to purchase other, smaller companies for its own. The snowboarding division of Head came to fruition in 2000, when Head merged with Blax.

Showing that quality is more important to them than anything else, Head retained the Blax creative team, and they’re still working on some of the best snowboard models on sale today.
