Gnu Snowboards: A Summary

History of Gnu Snowboards

Like Lib Tech snowboards, Gnu is a brand owned by Mervin Manufacturing and Quiksilver. The seeds for the company were planted in 1977, when Mike Olson built his very first snowboard, but really began to grow in the 80′s, when Olson and partner Pete Saari converted an old barn and began to manufacture them in earnest.

Mervin eventually bought out Gnu, Lib Tech and a few other brands (like Bent Metal bindings and Roxy Snowboards). After, Quiksilver eventually purchased Mervin. But even throughout all these corporate buy-outs, the brand names themselves have remained symbols of great craftsmanship and technological advancements in winter sports equipment.
